Technology

Australian scientists have designed a tiny paperclip sized mind-controlled device that could allow paralyzed patients to walk again.

At only 3cm long and a few millimeters wide, this tiny piece of technology would allow patients to gain control over their limbs through subconscious thought.  This device which is dubbed the “bionic spine” is undergoing human trial in the next year.

Fashion

New York Fashion Week was this week and a lot of sources were covering what was going on in NYC and the fashion world. Certain fashion brands have faced various issues in the past and Gucci is no exception.

Gucci was experiencing some issues the past couple of seasons.  Its previous Creative Director was struggling to keep the label from going under and they recently hired a new CD to try and turn things around.  This has been a smart move as Gucci has seen an 8% increase in sales since Alessandro Michele replaced Frida Giannini as the new CD.

Media

Broad City, not just a comedy show, captures the millennial experience and remains relevant with its connection to current trends ranging from political topics to the changing landscape of the adult world.

The third season just aired its first episode this Thursday (18th of February 2016) and is already renewed for a fourth and fifth season.  Broad City brings the rough and raw reality of the average person’s life to TV, it appeals to a wide group of people.  Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson understand that Broad City will have a life span and that they don’t want to draw it out longer than feels natural. They are both excited to work on whatever projects the future may hold.  These comedy kweens have a lot to look forward to, and so do we the fans.

Travel

Recent studies have shown an increase in bed bugs, even at 5 star hotels.

There has been a 44% increase in bed bug cases in NYC hotels alone lately.  Bed bugs spread quickly from room to room and feast on human and animal blood.  They’re about the size of dust and very hard to spot.  Conde Nast suggests that when you get to a hotel you should put your bags in the bathtub just in case since the bugs can’t grip onto the slippery surface. Conde Nast also suggests that you thoroughly check your bed before getting into it and that you should contact the hotel immediately if anything looks suspicious.

Mentions/replies

Conde Nast posted a photo and article about the death of a rare baby dolphin a couple of days ago.  The dolphin died because it was left in the sand after a group of people all took a selfie with it.  What is this world coming to, this is disgusting, inhumane, and so upsetting.

Sea World is attempting to save face again by replacing two of its top executives.  Replacing two execs isn’t going to completely change what’s going on at Sea World.  It is a start, but establishments like Sea World shouldn’t even exist in the first place.

I found this video really cool and interesting.  The reporter talked about how uncontrolling and relaxed Hilary Clinton was for her Vogue photoshoot.  It’s not what I would have expected and gives us a difference sort of glimpse of Clinton.

This was such an interesting article from Vice!  A lot of solid information and history about weed that I previously didn’t know.  I loved the different elements of this article and the personal stories that wore woven in like the time the “father of cannabis” got high.

(note-for some reason my twitter cards are not showing up, I’m going to try and fix it but I want to have something for the deadline)

Twitter Interactions

Olivia posted a really interesting article posing the question whether or not the iPhone could lose their reign. The article discussed how Apple could see a decline in their products.  I found this surprising and interesting just because how much influence Apple has over the target market compared to competitors.

I thought this retweet by Chris was really funny, but at the same time really unfortunate.  That’s such a big mistake to make, especially when your mom is running for President as well.

I’ve always been really interested in the topic of cloning, so when I saw Gaby post an article about that I had to check it out!

The Zika virus is all over the news lately so I was really interested when Corin posted an article about it.  It was really informative, I had no idea that around 3,893 cases of microcephaly in infants in Brazil that seem to be linked directly to the Zika virus.  Quite scary.
